| FJ stuck in 4 low I have a question that I really hope someone can answer. We have a 2008 FJ Cruiser, Manual transmission. My husband burned out the clutch towing the car up a steep hill that was covered in ice and snow...so he replaced the clutch using the service manual steps and it runs fine now...the problem is its stuck in 4 low! He's not sure if its because it was in 4 low and neutral when he started taking it all apart to replace the clutch or because he says when he took off the rear drive shaft (propellor shaft) it fell out but he had marked it so he was able to put it back on and he thought they had lined up the splines properly...dont know if these had anything to do with it We tested the neutral position indicator and the low 4 indicator and those are fine. it just wont shift out of 4 low! Anyone have any ideas? Its our only vehicle that fits the whole family so we are hoping it doesnt need major work done in a dealership...we changed the clutch ourselves to avoid that! but we need the FJ to have a top speed of more than 20 :-) thanks! |

| well, it's possible that something in the t-case has broke, might be cause of the clutch burning as well. Sounds like there was a lot of stress on the drive line. An old trick may be to back up about 10 feet or so and see, take the bind out of it. The case on the manuals acts like a differential and not like a standard t-case which make me think that he may have burned that up as well. He should drain the fluid from it and see what come out, may know pretty quick then. |
