Cool Checking and changing 2WD differential fluid????

Can someone give me the skinny on checking and changing the differential fluid on my 2008 2WD FJ. Drain plug, filler plug, type of fluid. Does Amsoil have an equivalent replacement fluid?

Have heard a lot of stories that Differential fluids levels are on the low side when shipped new....

According to the Toyota service CD (I bought on Ebay for $10.00 good investment) Checking the level is pretty basic.

Park on level ground
Remove plug
Fluid should be between 0-5mm from bottom of hole.

Below -18C use SAE 85 W90
above -18C use SAE 90

Type is:Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 (I don't know what that means)

Capacity depending on options : 3.01-3.22 US Quarts

I would of liked to attach the page but I don't know how. I'm better with autos than computers. I hope this helps.

Hey Bri guy,

I was looking at those CDs myself - what are they like. Do they come with photos or just schematics and directions? Thanks man!

The one that I have, has a Toyota label, and says FJ Cruiser Manual. I don't know if it's really from Toyota or not. But the info appears to be a CD version of the factory manuals. As with any of these, it takes a little time trying to navigate but once you understand it's well worth the few bucks. I done alot of modifacations on my 2008, it's had all the info I've needed.
