Don't know which would be better at extreme off road stuff, but the FJ being newer would probably have the advantage as a daily driver .... so it got my vote.

I fish and hunt, so this vehicle is perfect to haul my boat and gear. (That's why I bought it...)

The FJ 40 is my vote I had one new in 73. That rigg would go anywhere in fact I have pulled out the blazers and rams of that era. I got rid of that one and 7 years ago bought a 75. Love those FJ 40's.

Really liked my "76 FJ40. Wish I could have kept it, but had some serious engine problems and couldn't afford to put a new engine in it. Went a lot of places around Southern California with it. Hope this FJ Cruiser is as near as capable.

I'll vote for the FJ Cruiser. However, I like the body style of the FJ40 better...

As a teenater growing up in South America, I could only wish I could have owned an old fj. If I ever get the money I would love to purchase one of those old FJs but right now I am so glad I owned my 07 fj cruiser. Drove it from N.Y.C. to California (LOVED IT)

although I would love to own an old school FJ I gotta give my nod to the new style and it's bad a** a/c unit and the ntx flat panel audio, just to name a couple.
