tailights going off

I have a 1981 FJ40, diesel, 2 12 volt batteries.
The R tailight keeps burning off all three bulbs. I was able to fix it by changing the fuse, but they only worked for a day or so, then lightbulbs got burnt. Fuse is ok however.
It seems like there is too much power going to that tailight. can anyone point me in the right direction of what to do next?
Thanks,
FR

First thing I would do is check your voltage regulator to make sure distribution is constant with no surges. Check it with lights on, and with power on and power off. Next obvious thing is to check the wires and make sure there are no crossed harness or jury rig configurations in your system. You will need a schematic to check for proper wire routing. Squid should be able to provide you with that.
