Clutch Question

Hi - I am new to this site. I have a 2007 FJ Cruiser. Over the weekend the entire clutch went out. It has 30K miles on it. I had taken it into Toyota twice over the last 4 months because of a squeaky noise that I would hear when the clutch was not pushed in. They replaced the clutch bearing a month ago. They are now replaceing the entire clutch. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I wouldn't be suprised if the dealer made a mistake putting it back together.

I think that is the problem. Also that portion of the warranty (I dn't know what it is called) is only up to 36K miles. They tried to say it wasn't under warranty, even though the vehicle as 30K miles on it. After I stood up for myself, they decided they wouuld fix it even thouugh it wasn't under warranty. People do not do things out of the kindness of their heart that cost $1500. I'll be using a new dealer for the remainder of my warranty.

Hi Kathye,
Yea, alot of people have complained about the squeaky noise when the clutch isn't pushed in. I have it on mine, but have learned to live with it. Supposedly, it's just the way they are and it is not a sign of anything horribly wrong. Toyota's are known for being very dependable, nearly indestructable, but definitely NOT quiet.

I am glad they fixed it for you. Your right, them fixing it for free was their admition with out saying it. This isn't the sixties anymore, clutch disks just don't wear-out with that few miles anymore. They probably put the disk back together backwards.

I have a 2007 FJ and it has the squeaky noise when the clutch is not pushed. Is this a possible recall item?. I heard a lot of the same complaint from different people. I have not fixed it because it seems to be just noise but that is definetelly not normal. It happened right at the after of 30K Miles. It is already 56K and nothing but the noise has had happened. I went to the dealer and they told me some other FJs came with the same problem.
