Gear Shifting issues

Greetings, please forgive me because my technical automotive knowledge is limited so I will try to explain my issues as clear as possible.

I have had my Fj for two weeks now. I purchased a used 2007 with only 13,200 miles on it. The original owner only had it for 9 months. The only other experience I have had driving one was a 2008 at a dealership for a test drive but I do not recall the same problem occuring so I'm wondering if perhaps this is a 2007 specific issue or just car specific.

Mine seems to have a hard down shift. Generally from 4th going to 3rd and 3rd going down to 2nd. My FJ is an automatic but it just doesnt seem to have a smooth shift down. Is this normal? Has anyone else had this issue? I thought I had read somewhere on a review (after looking at so many cars I cant really remember if it was on the FJ) about shifting issues. I couldnt imagine a car with only 13k miles on it having shifting issues but I suppose anything is possible.

Any suggestions? Thoughts?

Much appreciated!

Mine also, seems to be more prominent slowing down on a incline. I've not thought of it as a problem, but more of a off rode vehicle trait.

It's called engine braking and this is normal.
