| 76' fuel / starting problem. Hay, I normally start my 1976 FJ40 every month or two to "get the bugs out". I started and drove it about 10 days ago with no problems (other than the 30 seconds to turn over, normal) Yesterday I could not get it started at all. It will crank and when I release the clutch it lurches forward so I know parts are moving. Heres what I've checked, Fuel- new 3 gallons with Sea Foam in it. Battery- charged and then jumped of 4Runner, fuel to fuel filter - check. fuel in sight glass in carburetor after total of 2 to 3 min of on / off cranking .. NOPE. So what happened? Or better asked is it possible that the fuel pump went out? From what I remember (15 years ago when I put it in) it is purely mechanical with one moving part. Could it have gone bad? Is there something else I'm missing? Thanks Tim |

| Haven't tried the spark yet but changed the fuel filter and then routed the line from the pump to the carb onto a can.... no fuel when cranking (30 sec). Then I took the top off the fuel pump, and there is residual fuel in there. So I put the top back on and tried again this time with a pressure gauge attached where the carb should be. As I crank it I get a fluctuation pressure of 0 to 1.5 or 2 psi. What do you think? Do I need a entire new fuel pump or is there a gasket that failed in there. Thanks, Newbie Tim |
