79 fj40

I have a 79 FJ 40 with the 2F engine. My OEM igniter has failed. Did this model have pointless electronic ignition?

Your's should be. In 1977 certain model Toyota's came with electronic ignition and then in 1978 all models of Toyota's had electronic ignition.

If your igniter is bad and you don't want to go OEM the MSD 6 is the replacememnt.

If you search around you may be able to find it cheaper but this is what you're looking for. MSD Ignition 6200 - MSD 6A CD Ignitions+

I had an MSD box that shorted out. My Dad used to use them in his racecars too. Mine shorted out as did many of his. Suggest getting two boxes if you do go with MSD as they are the only ones who can really fix them so your rig won't be running while it's shipped away!

Also, I have a 79 fj and put an LT1 out of a 94 camaro in it. I have the toyota 4 speed tranny and I need to hook up a VSS. Problem is the chevy computer can't read the pulse from the toyota tranny. Downey Offroad used to have a plugin piece that did the conversion automatically but since they went out of business all of their designs went to Advanced Adapters. Next problem...advanced adapters is not making that piece right now so I'm sort of S.O.L. I'm hoping someone has one or knows of someone who might that I could by. Can't get through SMOG without it. thanks in advance for any input!
