Where to begin with the '70 FJ40

I just got a '70 FJ40 with 88K original miles and got it started today but it needs work to get going reliably. I want to keep it relatively stock except for maybe a lift and bigger tires. A few questions off the bat I'm hoping someone can advise on.

1. Who do you guys recommend for parts- best prices, quality.
2. It has some rust and may benefit from some replacement panels rather than rust repair/labor etc.- Cool Cruisers has '70 body parts it looks like. Specter doesn't for that year. Any input?
3. Any suggestions for where to begin from experience? Body off, frame media blast/paint and go from there or??

I had an old car 20 years ago that was well on it's way but was crushed by a drunk driver and my son is going to help me with this one and any advice from the start from you experienced guys is much appreciated. I'll get some photos up soon.

Great forum and happy to have found it, I'll be reading a lot it looks like!

A lot of the parts didn't change that much from year to year and will work. I've gotten parts from cool cruisers and specter.

The best thing to do is start pulling parts because I discovered on my first restore that just because they look good from the outside they may be well rusted through from the backside.

you might want to get a complete replacement tub rather than piecing it together. look at tubs from AZ, they are usually pretty solid or you can drop some coin and go with a new AL tub.

I will be replacing my tub with a new one. Mine has had panels replaced only to have rust rear it's head elsewhere later. Was going to look at pilgrim's, but understand there have been problems recently with his business.
