Roof Rack

New member about to receive delivery of an FJ and a long time Toyota 4Runner user. My dogs have left a distinct impression on the 4R that I am trading in on the FJ. "Eau de Labrador" has permeated the cloth of that truck. Hopefully the FJ will be more appropriate for a dog lover like me.

I did not purchase the roof rack because its design just doesn't appeal to me. Seemed to be more like an image add-on than a practical rack. I do need a storage rack for all my skiing, hiking and fishing gear (depending on the season) so I would appreciate any leads from other members on the best roof rack for the FJ. I do want and enclosed ("Thule" style) rack with locking capability.

To the best of my knowledge, none of the roof rack vendors have delivered a rack for the FJ Cruiser.

This uses the factory roof rack and I think it looks pretty darn tough and functional. Toyota FJ Cruiser Roof Rack Lockbox

Nice Rack

Have a look at this one:

ARB FJ Cruiser Roof Rack

Wow! I don't know why you would've done that. I just transported my buddies two kyak's with out any problem - the rack is definitely not just for looks - and the other week I used it to take some 4X8 sheets of plywood home.
Maybe the States get a different rack than us Canucks.

The Factory rack is not just for looks. It is really quite functional. I have my Hi-lift jack, jerry cans, and ax/shovel mounted to it. The cross bars move in the rear which is nice. Wilderness makes a front basket that bolts on for those who need a full length rack. It is easy to add Yakama or Thule cross bars too. There are actually many options for aftermarket racks. Check out Wilderness, ARB, Gobi to name just a few.

I didn't get the factory rack, because I really like the ARB one and it looks like a factory rack, and it is beefy.
