New here, picking up my FJ 40 tomorrow. Visiting the In laws in Pa again, I finally stopped by a house that always had an FJ 40 parked in the driveway. I talked to the mrs and she said they had thought of selling it. I contacted her husband and we agreed on the price. Taking cash over tomorrow morning and bringing my new baby home. Shipping it to my home in Florida and the party begins.

Back in FL, transport truck due in today with the new project. Not sure which way to go with this????? Body and fenders have the typical rust, undercarraige is a tad rusty also. What kind of expences can I figure on to do a total restoration, ballparks will be fine. I know it's a tough question without seeing the vehicle. As appose to finding one that has been completed but needs to be sold due to the economy????

Body wise the only difference is the rear doors. The early models like mine had a hatch that lifted up and then two bottom doors that swung out. Later (Not sure of the year off the top of my head) had ambulance doors which were 2 one piece doors. As for price for restore it's not as exspensive as you might think. Check out this post which will help you get an idea of what things cost. http://www.toyotafjcruiserforums.com/2170-post2.html

thanks Squid. It's 8pm and no delivery yet??????? How different is a 1971 to a 1975, any? besides the rear doors? I found a 1971 that needs the new clutch (supplied) installed and then put back together. It has less rust and more restored/updated drivetrain parts. For around 5100.00. It's been kept inside for about 5 years being slowly updated and played with. transmission is out, way less rust in the panels. The one coming from PA has spent most of it's life outside in the rain and snow. Looks like quite a bit of rust under the nice looking paint job.
