New and already did something really stupid Just rolled the miles over to 3000 today, decided to change my oil. Done this thousands of times over the years on numerous vehicles. There sitting right out in the open was the drain plug. Ahhh how easily it came off.....only the fluid was red. YIKES! tranny fluid. I quickly cramed the plug back in and tightened it up. I drained out about 1/2 quart, maybe a little over a cup is all. I called the dealer to find out where I can add the cup of fluid back in. They said you can't, it takes a special procedure and is not easy. Dealer rep said I should be fine and just to drive as normal with the 1/2 quart missing? Do you folks think this will be okay? It holds 12 quarts in there I was told, so 1/2 a quart is not much. However, my FJ is my baby and even if there is a small chance this will be bad for it, I want it fixed. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kate

I wouldn't stress out too much about it! There is plenty of oil still left in there, so the tranny is going to have no trouble in finding oil. Otherwise, if it worries you, drive straight to a dealer to add more. Cheers, Mat

Thanks for the input. I read the procedure for a refil, squid, thanks! It seems you would need some sort of pump to get the fluid into that side fill hole? So is 1/2 a quart going to be bad for my tranny if I just decide to leave it like that? In the instructions you gave it quotes about 6 quarts, but the dealer told me 12 quarts. Missing 1/2 a quart out of 12 does not seem like much, but if it truly only hold 6, then I'm more incliced to believe I need to get that 1/2 quart back in there?
