new kid here, many questions....

Hey everyone,

I'm another new person here and I'm not much of a poster to forums. I do have to say this seems like one of the more friendly and helpful sites I've seen out there (for any subject).

I'm considering buying an '08 FJ and have several questions (many have been asked and answered, but I want to see if there are any updates). I’m not a big Off-Road guy, but I do want the off road package w/4wd for any snowboard/fishing/camping trips I may take. Other than that, it will mostly be a 40 mi round trip fwy vehicle.

Sorry if this is going to be long, but here goes:

--What package includes (if any) the blacked out steel rims (Steelies?) I see once in a while?

--I want the off road package (mostly for the shocks), but how do I go about getting some of the convenience package items? Just special order each item??

--Which is the best sound system I can get in this vehicle without the Sub-Woofer (I hear it takes up valuable cargo room)?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the site. I'll try and help answer some of your questions if I can. Maybe some other members will chime in and help if I can't.

-- From what I can tell some dealers will leave the black steelies on and some dealers will swap them out for the alloy's. Just look around and talk to some salesmen, I figure that if you must have the OEM steelies, that they won't fight you over them.

-- According to the Toyota website, the Offroad package requires the convenience package.
Here's a link to all of the available options on the 08's.

-- Go ahead and get the subwoofer. I doesn't take up that much space.
Here's a pic of it on the right hand side.

Hopefully this has helped. If not do more research here:

Thanks for the reply!!

So from what you're telling me, the Steelies are the stock wheels? that would save me some money on a package.

I've seen all the information on the links you provided (thanks!), and I'm sorry, it's just confusing with all that information. Maybe I'd be better off just getting the upgrade #1 or whichever package has the Subwoofer.

Is the sound system any good in this or will I have to make speaker/stereo mods? I work for a sound processing gear manufacturer so I have pretty high standards for sound (did I just answer my own question?? Lol).

Any additional info on this vehicle is GREATLY appreciated and I look forward to buying the FJ and hopefully being part of this community.

Thanks again!

Well I'm not much of an audiophile, but beings you are in the sound business yourself, probably would need to upgrade. In my books its a pretty good sounding system. Alot of folks that I have chatted with on other sites have upgraded their stereo package. Maybe once you hear it you can make a decision.

Isn't new vehicle buying fun? Not! They don't make easy any more do they?

Welcome to the site and we hope you do stick around and help out after you get your FJ.

I'm taking my time a bit, but man are the sales guys obnoxious. I tell them to contact me via email only as I'm only in the quote comparison phase (about a month or two away from buying because of a lease turn in). I still need to go down and test drive one but my mind is pretty made up.

I'm really looking forward to being a part of the site although I won't really be doing much in the way of Mods, or off-roading other than traveling mountain roads to go snowboarding or fishing.

Thanks for all the help.

Well good luck on the purchase. I know what you're talking about with the salesmen. I talked to about 3 or 4 salesmen, and I got different answers from each one. The dealership that I bought ours from, were STALKERS. It seemed like after we made the purchase it got worse, but I could understand they're just trying to lookout for their customers. Anyways, keep us posted with the progress.
