| compass steering me wrong I just piked up a low mile, 2wd (forgive me) 07 fj after 4+ years with a 05 4runner that I loved to drive, this is better! I find it strange that my compass seams to be doing it's own thing most of the time and is about 90' off. I never had this with my OLD mitsu montero that had the same kind of instrument cluster. I didn't get a manual but just I found one on ebay, I don't know if there is something I should do or take it in for service. I notice it will move when I start it. |

| I think that there is a way to calibrate the compass. Let me look in the wifes tonight and I'll see what I can find out.

| Here ya go. CALIBRATING THE COMPASS (circling calibration) Sometimes the direction display on the compass may not change after a turn. To rectify this, stop the vehicle and do as follows. 1. Push and hold the “SET” button for about 2 seconds. The zone number appears on the outside temperature display. 2. Push the “SET” button. “−−” will start moving. 3. Drive the vehicle in a circle at 8 km/h (5 mph). If there is not enough space to drive in a circle, drive around the block. When the compass display returns to the outside temperature display, calibration is complete. When circling calibration fails, “Er” is displayed for 2 seconds and then “COMPASS” flashes. It also flashes when circling calibration is not completed. If you want to cancel the calibration before it is complete, push the “SET” button for about 2 seconds. Perform circling calibration just after you have purchased your Toyota. And then always perform circling calibration after the battery has been removed, replaced or disconnected. Do not perform circling calibration of the compass in a place where the earth’s magnetic field is subject to interference by artificial magnetic fields (underground parking, under a steel tower, between buildings, roof parking, near a crossing, near a large vehicle, etc.). During calibration, do not operate electric systems (power windows, etc.) as they may interfere |

| TommyBoy: The manual I got is the standard SWAG that come with a new one all but the CD and case. not a lot of tech kind of stuff just how to, warranty, maintenance, that kind of thing (oh... a couple of floor mat hooks) If anyone needs one check out at ebay- thebookguy1 he rescues manuals in good condition from salvage yards. I asked him to find me a case and he gave me one from a BMW for free... he's a good joe. |
