Question Red button beside side mirror adjustment panel

Hey everyone, I just bought a new 07 fj, had it two days, and still don't know what the red button is on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. it is located right beside the l/r mirror adjustment panel. u can push it in and it lights up red but nothing is indicated on the instrument panel. i've read the manual and it doesn't mention it. one salesmen said it was for your breaks......and another said it was for security. but he said dont' worry about it. well, if it can be pressed and it is for security i might want to use it!! anyone know? also, my steering wheel vibrates on all roads sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't...what would cause that?

Well, I don't have that button, but do you have a manual transmission? The owner's manual says there is a "Clutch start cancel switch" right in that spot. As far as the vibration, I haven't noticed. I've had mine about 3 weeks.

no i have auto transmission. i saw that in the owner's manual but i think it's referring to the button next to this one. if u notice there's two spaces there, of which u may not have a button but they are the same shape as the buttons below the a/c. i called the dealer again and he said u press it to make the alarm act differently, but i don't think he really knows cuz i still don't know what it does or is suppose to do

Could be an aftermarket alarm switch that the previous owner installed? I have no idea. Never heard of this switch before?

Smile This is the explanation I was given

I do not have the button in that position on my FJ.
but I do have a red button in my glove box. When I asked about it I was told that is the valet switch for the alarm. You can press it to change the setup of certain security systems. On most it is a disable switch to allow for service guys and etc to work with your vehicle and not have the alarm auto activate. If you do not have this switch I was told the service guy has to disconnect the battery when working to stop the alarm from auto arming.
