| Don't believe the Toyota video...What I learned about driving in sand.... Don't believe the Toyota video which says to put the FJ in LL for driving in sand. Last weekend I drove on a beach in North Carolina with deep (about a foot) and soft sand.... I kept the car in HL for a mile, then LL for couple hundred yards. All the drivers there who were locals said never put the vehicle in LL.....LL is only good for rock climbing or pulling someone who is stuck and your vehicle is on a hard surface. They said all LL does is dig you deeper into the sand. This is the opposite of what the FJ Cruiser site video says. In two hours on the beach, I saw 9 4wd vehicles get stuck.... I stayed in HL, and was fine. It was tricky though with a manual like I have compared to an automatic. Hope this info helps anyone who is going to hit the beach! |

| Did you have to air down the tires any?

| Yes....I dropped only about 5 PSI per tire to 27 psi.....but should have done more.... From what the locals were saying....run about 20-22 psi per tire. Next time, I will drop it down to that....You can run safely down to about 6-8 psi...but don't need to go there. But you brought up a good point....lowering air pressure is probably priority number one in driving in sand. |
