Driving in sand question (transmission settings)

I have a 2007 FJ (manual trans). In a couple days (July 5th)....I'll be driving on a beach (public access)....It is used daily by drivers. For this kind of driving....do I need to go to LL and locked rear diff?....or will HL be good enough?

I am a complete novice in understanding what conditions call for what transmission settings. I know this is a hypothetical....but I have gone through 10 inch mud with HL and no problem, and just wasn't sure if I had to gear it down to LL for beach sand or not.

Thanks for any advice!

I'd just got to HL and lock the diff and maybe air down the tires some.

So how did you do in the sand?
Ours handles great in the sand we did the largest hill at the Dunes. We were the only stock vehichle that could do all of them.
For future referance if you do deep loose sand drop your Tire Pressure to 10 lbs. Most advice is 15 to 18 lbs but we were given the tip from a guy and man it made a huge differance.

I did fine in the sand....I kept it in HL....lowered the pressure some, and it was fine...the sand was very soft too....saw many SUVs get stuck.

Did you stay in HL...or go to LL and lock diff?

we stayed in hl until we got into the real loose stuff after the dunes shifted, then we had to lock the diff to have better control.

nothing better than having to open the "unused" tow strap to pull out an envoy.... it made our day!!

Regarding tire pressure...from everything I have read....keeping it to 18 psi or lower is the way to go....I was probably at 24 psi....

Next time will lower pressure more.
