Opening Day of Pheasant Season in Kansas

I took my hunting partners Abbey and Molly out for the pheasant season opener in Kansas last Saturday. We had a great time and were fairly successful - limiting out by 10:00. The FJ did great, but I wish we had a little rain so I could try her out on the mud roads. It's actually quite amazing what you can get away with without even engaging the 4WD. In the background is my recently purchased and renovated 1976 Scamp (well at least I got the interior renovated before hunting season began).

Nemaha County

I went to some property in Nemaha County, south of Seneca about 8 miles or so. Alot of my best blue stem fields were plowed under to make way for soybeans and corn - darn shame. However, I was still able to get into some good pockets of ground.

Next weekend - Washington County. Hope we get some rain! When it gets wet, there are some extremely challenging 4WD areas. Strap in the dogs ...

A good hunt is a great time any time! Can't wait for spring turkey season. The property I hunt on is steep hill country in Jo Daviess county in Illinois. I am anxious to test the FJ in the wet hilly grass.

You won't be disappointed in the wet grass. I got into some really nasty conditions this winter - mud up the yin/yang, freezing rain, and snow and Betty performed flawlessly.

Squid, Tommyboy,
I'm planning to take a trip to Flint Hills by Emporia the first or second weekend of prairie chicken in September. I've ordered some hunting guides to provide pointers, but if you have any suggestions on how to tackle Flint Hills or otherwise where to go, etc., I'd appreciate it. And, if anyone is interested in joining me, send me a pm. Seriously. I'm easy company. I'm used to hunting pheasant in South Dakota and bobwhites in Oklahoma...venturing out to try the Kansas chickens. So far, it's just me, my 2 and 1/2 year old german shorthair and the FJ.

I sent you a PM. Sounds great to me. I'm also looking to take a trip to South Dakota this year for Pheasant. It could be a GSP jamboree!
