Auto Traction Control--Not An Option

Hello! I'm in the military, stationed overseas. The offbase dealer that caters to Americans doesn't let you customize your FJ order here.

So, I can get a manual or automatic 4x4, with the convenience group only. I wanted to put a thread to the community asking for opinions regarding Active Traction Control. I can't get an FJ with this feature over here. Should that be a deal breaker?

I'm taking the vehicle to South America on my next assignment...Plenty of city driving yes, but I will be putting it to good use off-road in the Patagonia region and at ski resorts in the Andes. Thanks in advance for your time!

Atc

If it were me I'd be patient and wait until i got to a dealer that would get the package I wanted.
That being said I have been going through different forums that discuss the "ATC hack" basically they say the wiring is there - you just have to hook up a switch to the wiring behind the dash.
Don't take my word for it - do some research.

available post factory

My fj did not come without one either, but I found this post factory modification that is apparantly fairly easy. I am probably going to order it in the next couple of weeks.

Quick question: Since the basic models don't have the ATC button, am I to assume the ATC is always on? I think that's what my manual says. Also what would be a good situation to have it on / what would be a good situation to have it off?
Just wonderin'

Wow, look at this installation video for the A-Trac. I guess all you need for installation is a butter knife! FJ Cruiser Accessories from Pure FJ Cruiser - Toyota A-Trac Switch # 84988-35060

For the Record, I poped out the A-Trac plug and Crossed the Pink wire with the White/black striped wire. Didn't get the A-track light on when I was in L-4 or any other position. Then I put her up on a big snow bank and nothing. Not working, and no light. My FJ doesn't have the dif-Loc on it, so it looking like I'm SOL. Any help here would be great. Can't figure why dif-loc would make any diffrence at all? That's a compleatly diffrent system on the Beast.

Anyway that's where i'm at.

Mongo,
Everything that I have read says that you need a 4x4 with a diff. Loc on it. I think you may be SOL - sorry. I'll let you know if mine works out.
