Towing question

Hey all I'm new here...Don't own a Fj but looking hard. I need a hunting/fishing rig that will not depreciate so quick...believe it or not I keep a Cadillac Escalade EXT (2nd one) in the garage and really just use it for the hunt/fish routine. So now that I'm on my second one with 10K on it after 3 years I have come to realize how much $$$ is gone while it sits there (garaged of course).
So the big question will a FJ (late 70's model) tow a fishing boat? Not a monster by any means 17' lund ...I don't need the 405HP I have now but I don't want to feel like I'll never get there either. Or that feeling of who is towing who. I do NOT want a small block...looking for all original machine.
It appears that if you have a restored FJ they keep there value...especially when you have someone like me who is pretty anal about caring for a vehicle...
One other question >>> After 1976 a better choice because of the upgrades like PS/PB larger motor 2F???
Thanks!
