OBD II scanner will not work on 08 FJ?

Hi,
New Member here.
My 2008 FJ had it's maint. light came on at 5000 miles. Didn't know what it was for but I do now. Anyway I hooked up my Actron OBD II scanner to see what it was and it would not work with my 2008 FJ? Works just fine on my 2001 Highlander. Anybody have this trouble? Toyota changing the system? I thought all the manufactures have to be compliant with OBD II which means anyone can hook up their scanners. I do know that the hand held scanners will not show you as much as the scanners at the dealer but I should be able to view the codes, rpms, IAT, Oxygen sensors etc.
Any thoughts?

That's because you now need a OBDII scan/reader that is CAN Compliant. All new ACTRON readers are CAN compliant but rather then buy just a reader I suggest a scan gauge. For $169 it'll do so much more then just read and clear codes. ScanGaugeII - Trip Computers + Digital Gauges + Scan Tool

Thanks for the CAN update. I went to Actron's web site where it shows the update software/board for $60. I've all ready got the Actron Super AutoScanner CP9145 which shows all the data.

Light

With 5K on the ODO, I'd let the dealer look at it under warranty.

I think when he said "but I do now" he meant he realized it was the change oil light.

FWIW: I have an AutoTap Scantool that I use on my laptop, it worked fine on my 97 Mustang Cobra but when I bought my FJC it wouldn't work. I called AutoTap and when I told them I used one of their extension cables they said that cable wouldn't work. I took out the extension cable and now it works fine. I believe the AutoTap is CAN compliant so I think the cable didn't pass through all the pins. Just thought I would mention it in case you have an extension.
