Roof Rack Mods

Just wondered if you guys have any good ideas how to beef up the stock roof rack.

Well I am glad someone is out there. I have no problem with the side bars but the cross bars don't slide all the way to the front before they run out of room inside the plastic brackets that hold them to the side bars. Basically, when I try to put a longer ladder on top I feel like I'm running out of room. I want to get a cross bar all the way to the front. Its like they gave me too many short ones. There is not enough space between the front cross bar and the back bar that connect to the main side bars.

I talked to my Dad, too, about a welder. I might have to go that way. Just started dreaming up a boat rig for the roof rack. Get something going with a winch and that sweet ARB Delux Bull Bar.

Well, when I put my kayak on top, I use an el-cheapo roof package that is just two pieces of ethafoam (harder foam rubber) with two tie down straps. It works great and I don't see why it wouldn't work with a ladder. Check out the Target store online. That's where I got mine.
