Power Mods - What can be done ???

Hi All.

I own a 2008 FJ Cruiser 4WD Auto in the UAE. It a daily driver with road use on weekdays and off road / desert driving on the weekends.

Car is at the moment stock. Am looking into a few upgrades and wanted to hear your thoughts on them.

1. CAI : Which Cold Air Intake would you recommend as the best for the FJ. I'm sure there are people here who have tried most of what available are can advice on which one is the best in terms of increasing airflow. I am leaning towards the TRD setup which has the filter in a box as it is very dusty here and I feel a CAI with an open filter element would get clogged in no time. What is the gain in terms of BHP from a CAI and does it improove fuel consumption.

2. Throttle Body Spacer : Is this worth it. what are the gains and which design is best.

3. Unichip : What does it actually do. Is it a good idea. Whats the downside.

4. How can the engine be freed of the artificial top speed limiter. The car will go upto 180 KMPH and then something cuts in and restricts it for increasing the speed. Can this be removed.

5. Which is the best header / cat back system available. Is it OK to stay on stock exhaust maniflods with a cat back system or a complete system is advised.

6. Does anyone supply custom bump stops to prevent front wheels hitting the wheelarches. Any hydeolic options available.

7. Is it advisable to do some suspension mods or stay stock for desert driving. Currently no problems encountered apart from the tyres hitting the inner wheel arches. Any adjustable suspension systems out ther that can be adjusted for ride height and firmness.

Well thats about it for now. Looking forward to your inputs.

Cheers

Wasif

One thing you didn't mention was the TRD supercharger. I believe it's a blower and not a turbo. The few threads I have read stated that they are pricy but bolt on with minimal trouble. And put out the most power per dollar. I haven't done anything with the other topics you ask about. Keep us posted on what you like and dislike.

The Supercharge is a good potion I was actually interested in but on further research I learned that the ECU on my car, which is a GCC spec version is actually different form the US spc cars.

So the Supercharger would not be in harmony with the ECU. Another reason is that there is only one Toyota Dealer in the region and they have no knowledge on this product and its installation.

Further due to the extremely hot / humid weather the car would suffer overheating issues. Cars which come with factory installed supercahrgers like the Range Rover Sport are known to overheat out here.
