| Squid Nope, it's not the rear parking assist and as of yet, I still have not figured out what this button is for. I bought my FJ used with 8k miles but I think it has a motion sensitive alarm in it. The sales rep at the dealer kept saying it had an alarm but I thought he was just hyping up the factory installed horn alarm that is stock on just about all Toyota's. But...the other day I was walking by the FJ and I folded in the side mirror and the FJ honked at me four times in short succession as if to say, "back off buddy". Scared the skin off me. That lead me to believe that there is an alarm that not just the factory installed alarm. Long winded story just to say that perhaps this button somehow goes with this alarm system? Does this spark any new thoughts? |

| OK after much research, I've figured it out. It does disable the interior motion sensor of the alarm system if you purchased the add-on VIP R3200 (or something like that) alarm system. I bought my FJ used and it came with the upgraded alarm but no manual. Anyway, on the center console, under the Passenger Air Bag light, there is another circle that will indicate whether the alarm is active or not. Once the vehicle is off, if I push this button, the alarm light will blink rapidly indicating that the interior motion sensor is off. Then if you lock the vehicle, and leave pets inside, they won't trip the alarm. I performed a couple of control tests to check it out. First test: locked myself in the vehicle and waited the 45 seconds for the alarm light to go out. I did NOT push the "sensor off" button. Moved my arms and the alarm went off. I didn't move much and was surprised at how sensitive it was. Second test: Pushed the "sensor off" button, locked myself in the vehicle and waited 45 seconds for the alarm light to go off. Waved my arms around wildly but...nothing. I should have tried to unlock the door but I assume the alarm is working properly. So that's it. Problem solved. Keep in mind though there is a 45 second activation period from when you lock the vehicle and the motion sensor becomes active. Don |
