Hey, just changed the oil on my wife's FJ for the first time. Although I really like the fact that the oil filter is on top of the engine and really easy to get to, I wonder if anyone has figured a way not to get oil all over the engine when you take the filter off.

Next time I'll try poking a hole in the top of the filter to allow some of it to drain into the engine.

Any one else try this or have a better trick?

There seems to be a aluminum lip with a fitting underneath the filter. Perhaps you are supposed to pull the cap off and put something under to catch the oil. I didn't try that hard but I couldn't get the cap off.
